A Stay Designed for Unplugging & Reconnecting

January 20, 2026 Experiences

Step away from the screen and into the moment. Discover Shinola Hotel's Digital Detox—a curated experience designed for slowing down.

When was the last time you spent 24 hours without checking your phone?

It's harder than it sounds. Our devices have become extensions of ourselves. We rely on their alarm clocks, cameras, newspapers, maps, and count on constant connection to everyone and everything, all the time. The average person checks their phone over 100 times a day. We reach for it before we're fully awake. We scroll before bed, even when we know it's sabotaging our rest.

The cost of constant connectivity is real. Studies link excessive screen time to increased anxiety, disrupted sleep, and diminished ability to focus. We're more informed than ever, but somehow more confused and conflicted.

That's why we've created the Digital Detox: a curated experience designed to help you step away from the screen and back into the moment—if only for a night.

How It Works

Upon arrival, you'll stow your phone in a Shinola-branded vault. Your room comes equipped with everything you need to stay engaged without a screen: Board games, a Shinola turntable with full access to our vinyl library, books from our curated collection, and a Camp Snap camera to capture memories the old-fashioned way.

At night, instead of the usual doom scroll, you'll find a Shinola journal with reflective writing prompts waiting on your nightstand. It's yours to keep, along with the camera.

Around-the-clock service helps ease the struggles of navigating sans smart phone. Throughout your stay, our Guest Experience team is available 24/7 via your in-room telephone. Need a dinner reservation? Recommendations for what to do downtown? Transportation arranged? We've got you covered. You're disconnected from your device, but not from the city and all it has to offer.

Why It Matters

A digital detox—even a short one—can reset your relationship with technology. Research shows that taking breaks from screens improves sleep quality, reduces stress, and helps restore focus. You think more clearly, you're more present in conversations, and you notice things you've been scrolling past for months.

There's also something freeing about not having the option to check. No FOMO. No comparing. No compulsion to document every moment for an audience. Just you, your surroundings, and the rare luxury of being unreachable.

The Digital Detox isn't about demonizing technology—it's about remembering what life feels like when you're not tethered to it. It's permission to slow down, unplug, and reconnect with what matters.
