Tuesdays at Shinola Hotel are Detroit's Worst Kept Secret
Every Tuesday night, Detroit's creatives gather in Shinola Hotel's Living Room for an “IYKYK” DJ night. Here's what you need to know.
IYKYK
The best parts of Detroit's creative scene exist without an audience. No promotion, no spotlight—simply passed along by trusted recommendations, knowing nods, and the occasional "you should come through on Tuesday."
For years, Shinola Hotel's Living Room has hosted an unintentionally semi-secret Tuesday night tradition. Local DJs spin, the city’s movers, shakers, and creatives fill the room, and nobody makes a big deal about it (which is kind of the point). It's how the weekly event was nicknamed IYKYK, or “if you know, you know”, over time.
The Scene
The vibe is relaxed but intentional, inviting locals to mix, mingle, and network in an organic and laid-back atmosphere. Top DJs keep the vibes right with hip-hop and soul, R&B, house, afrobeats, amapiano and more. Detroiters can hear good music and have a few drinks without committing to a full night out. And there’s always the possibility you’ll run into collaborators, friends, or someone working on something interesting you haven't heard about yet.
There’s no cover, no guest list, no reservations—just show up, grab a drink, and see who's in the room. Detroit's worst kept secret? Maybe. But we're not telling. See you Tuesday. 6-9 p.m. in the Living Room.
